Surabaya Deportations: Scams and Passport Refusals

The Tanjung Perak Immigration Office in Surabaya, East Java, deported a group of nine Chinese nationals involved in online fraud recently uncovered by local police. The suspects entered Indonesia on visitor visas and rented a house in Surabaya to operate their fraudulent scheme, targeting victims in China.
Legal proceedings against them will take place in their home country, with the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia coordinating with Chinese law enforcement to monitor the legal actions against these individuals.
Most of them had previously entered and exited Indonesia on visitor visas. They are now blacklisted to prevent future entry into the country.
Surabaya Immigration also deported two other foreign nationals from Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Jakarta) — a Russian woman with the initials D.M. and a Tunisian man with the initials S.M., who were accused of violating Indonesia’s immigration laws.
The Russian citizen was detained for a minor offense (failing to present identification to an immigration officer upon request), after which the case was brought to court. The judge ruled a fine of 500,000 rupiah or a seven-day jail sentence. The woman opted to pay the fine, and after payment, she was deported.
