A dog rabies vaccination campaign has started in Tabanan Regency in Bali. The Regency Agriculture Office plans to vaccinate 10,000 animals during April. Vaccinations are being carried out across the regency, with priority given to villages with a high dog population density. According to local authorities, Tabanan is home to 54,726 dogs.

For the campaign, 10,000 vaccine doses have been prepared. They were distributed among three animal health centres: one received 4,000 doses, and the other two received 3,000 each. The authorities expect to use the entire supply by the end of April.
The campaign is taking place against the backdrop of an ongoing rabies threat. Three villages in Tabanan currently remain classified as red zones: Lumbung Kauh and Lalalinggah in Selemadeg Barat District, and Munduk Temu in Pupuan District. A year ago, there were six such zones in the regency.
At the end of January, Tabanan authorities reported a confirmed rabies case in the village of Munduk Temu. After a dog tested positive in laboratory results, an emergency vaccination was carried out there.
With the new campaign underway, the authorities and relevant services are once again reminding people about safety measures. Tourists are advised not to interact with stray animals, especially in rural areas, near temples and on beaches. In case of a bite or scratch, they recommend immediately washing the wound with soap under running water for at least 15 minutes and seeking medical attention at the nearest hospital as soon as possible.
