Emergency animal vaccination has begun in Jembrana after rabies was confirmed in a dog that attacked people in the village of Tegal Badeng Timur. The incident took place in Banjar Tangi, Negara district.

According to medical staff, five people came into contact with the dog. It bit four of them and licked another child’s leg. Four have already received a rabies vaccine. The fifth person is still being sought: after a family event in Jembrana, he returned to Java.
The bites were reported on 15 June. The next day, the dog died, after which samples were taken and sent for testing to a veterinary laboratory in Denpasar. On 21 June, the laboratory confirmed rabies.
In Tegal Badeng Timur, urgent vaccination has begun for animals that could carry the virus. On the first day, 50 animals were vaccinated: 20 dogs and 30 cats. Vaccinations are being carried out within a radius of about three kilometres from the site of the case. The work will continue together with the village rabies response team.
According to the veterinary service, from January to June 2026, 12 cases of rabies in animals were confirmed by laboratory tests in Negara district. All positive samples were taken from dogs.
The authorities are asking owners not to let pet dogs and cats roam freely outside and to vaccinate their animals regularly. If you are bitten or scratched by a dog, cat or monkey, you should immediately wash the wound and go to the nearest clinic.
