The company has suspended deposits and withdrawals because hacking attempts against it are becoming more frequent. It is not yet known when transfers will resume.
Indodax is Indonesia's largest crypto exchange, handling more than a third of all cryptocurrency transactions in the country. It has been operating since 2014 and started out in Bali. Foreigners with a residence permit, either a KITAS or a KITAP, can also open an account on it.
Deposits and withdrawals have been suspended since Thursday, 29 October. Late that evening, Indodax announced that it had found the source of the problem and was fixing it. The company insists that customers' rupiah and cryptocurrency balances are safe: its checks found no unauthorised debits and no data leaks.
The company has promised to resume transfers as soon as the system is fixed and its security has been fully checked. It is posting updates on its blog, on X and on Instagram.
Around the same time, Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, also suspended deposits and withdrawals. It was attacked by hackers, and the company has promised to cover all losses itself.
Indodax was already hacked in September 2024, and at that time the platform shut down completely for several days.
