Immigration officers detained three foreigners at a nightclub in Canggu who, according to authorities, had been working there illegally as DJs.
A Nigerian woman who had overstayed her visa by 402 days was detained along with them.
The raid took place on the evening of September 24. It was a joint operation between the immigration service and the military police. The National Narcotics Agency, the municipal police, and the Denpasar police also took part.
The foreigners suspected of working illegally as DJs included one Egyptian citizen and two Russians. None of them had a work permit on hand.
The Egyptian national entered Indonesia on a visa on arrival (VOA). One of the Russian nationals also held a VOA, while the other had an investor KITAS.
All four are currently being held by the Ngurah Rai immigration office, where their stay permits and other documents are being checked. Authorities have not yet said what will be decided in each case.
This is not the first major check on foreigners in the Canggu area in recent weeks. On September 17, immigration officers carried out raids in Canggu, Seminyak, and Umalas. At that time, 13 foreigners suspected of various immigration violations were detained.
