Badung Increases Beach Patrols Amid Tourist Safety Concerns

Badung Regency’s marine police have stepped up patrols along the coast, including at Petitenget Beach in North Kuta. They cite changeable weather as the reason: the ocean can quickly turn rough, and the risk of accidents increases.

They also reminded tourists not to go into the water while intoxicated. Over the past week, officers have been regularly patrolling beaches, speaking with visitors and asking them to heed the warning signs.
Among the typical situations that lead to tragic incidents are elderly tourists swimming (for example, when their legs cramp in the water) and going into the sea after drinking alcohol—in that state it’s harder to stay in control and assess the risk properly.
Patrols also include onshore checks, including paying attention to safety in parking areas to reduce the risk of theft from beach visitors.
