Denpasar Immigration Under Anti-Corruption Scrutiny

Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has searched the Denpasar immigration office. The search is linked to an investigation into possible extortion and illegal payments during the processing of stay permits. Several suitcases and a large bag, believed to contain documents, were taken from the building.

Investigators also checked two visa consultancy offices in Bali — PT Visa Empat Bali and CV Visa Agung Bali Teratai Promenade. Documents and electronic storage devices were seized.
The case is linked to former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim. The KPK believes that between 2022 and 2026, a scheme involving additional illegal payments may have operated during the processing of documents for foreigners. The case concerns temporary and permanent stay permits.
According to investigators, foreigners may have been offered faster processing for an extra fee of around 1 to 1.5 million rupiah per person. Investigators estimate the total amount involved in the case at 145.5 billion rupiah.
There are currently eight suspects in the investigation, including former and then-serving immigration officials, as well as people who may have acted as intermediaries in the document processing.
Denpasar immigration officials said that services continued as normal after the search.
