In Nusa Dua, Club Med Bali caught fire on the morning of 24 April. The fire did not start in the accommodation buildings, but in the restaurant area and the hotel’s main kitchen.

There were no casualties. The fire was contained before it spread to the guest room buildings and the hotel’s main public areas.
Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have started from a deep fryer: the oil overheated, and the flames quickly rose to the ceiling and roof, where there were wooden elements. The official cause is still under investigation.
The fire damaged a two-storey building covering about 5,000 square metres. It included the Agung Restaurant, a boutique, a photo booth, a meeting room and the accounting office. Damage is estimated at more than 5 billion rupiah.

Firefighters from Badung and the internal fire service of The Nusa Dua resort area responded to the scene. After extinguishing the fire, emergency crews cooled the building to ensure there were no hidden hotspots. The area is now described as safe and under control.
