The incident's video went viral, sparking lively debates on social media.
The chairman of the Pasar Agung route guides, I Wayan Widi Yasa, confirmed that the man belongs to the Suka Duka Pendakian group from the village of Sebudi. According to him, the incident took place on October 8. Whose phone it was — the guide's or a tourist's — remains unclear. Widi Yasa noted that the guide managed to return unharmed: "According to the recording, he only partially descended the slope, not reaching the crater's bottom."
The chairman of the Agung guides organization, I Ketut Mudiada, expressed concern. He emphasized that descending into the crater is permitted only for specially trained individuals and exclusively in emergencies. "Descent is allowed only in extreme cases, such as a rescue," he said, adding that it is still unknown who took the risky action and what exactly was retrieved.
