Amid troubling reports of the flooding consequences in Bali, a touching story with a happy ending emerged. A resident of Denpasar, Ni Wayan Ayu Darmiyanti, shared that during the night of the disaster, she was asleep until around four in the morning when her dog named Moka started banging on the bedroom door.

The behavior seemed strange, and at first Ayu thought that the dog just wanted to lie down next to her. But even inside the bedroom, Moka was restless. When Ayu got out of bed, she found that the water had already entered the room. “He kept scratching my leg, and when I let him off the bed — which is quite high — I saw that the water had risen. There was even more in the living room,” the woman recalls.
Ayu managed to move things to higher ground and then evacuated to the yard with Moka and another dog, Charlie. Charlie was also trying to warn his owner — barking from the sofa, which the water was already reaching. Despite the house being on a hill near the Badung River and the water level reaching an adult’s hip, the family managed to get out unscathed.
The story spread across social media and reached the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. During a visit to Denpasar, he personally called Moka a hero: “Wow, you're a hero, you saved your owner,” said the president, addressing the dog.
Neighbors are also impressed: “If it weren't for Moka, things could have ended worse. Animals sometimes sense danger earlier than humans,” shared one of the local residents.
Today, as Bali gradually returns to normal life, Moka's story has become a symbol of how even in the hardest times, a loyal friend can be by your side.
