A special commission in Bali conducted a surprise inspection of villas and restaurants on the cliff of Bingin Beach (Pecatu village). The inspection revealed dozens of buildings constructed on steep slopes without permits, some of which are on state land. These include villas, restaurants, and guesthouses.

Buildings located directly on cliffs are of particular concern: they pose a risk of landslides and blatantly violate land use regulations. According to the commission, many of these properties are owned by foreigners, which raises concerns about illegal ownership, environmental damage, and tax evasion.
The commission's chairman, I Nyoman Budiutama, stated: owners will be given 10 days to provide documentation. The absence of permits or construction in hazardous areas will lead to demolitions, with costs falling on the owners.
The raid involved the police, immigration service, land agency, and other departments. Special attention was paid to the role of foreigners in illegal construction and management of properties. Owners will be called in for clarification.
This inspection is part of a campaign against illegal construction and haphazard development, especially in areas at risk of natural disasters. Authorities emphasize that law compliance is essential for the safety and sustainable development of Bali.
Notably, similar inspections already took place in 2023. However, the new inspection showed that not all owners have learned their lesson.
