Bali will become a "living laboratory" for electric and air transport. The number of electric cars on the island is already noticeably increasing, and the authorities are ready to go further: they plan to offer them to tourists as the main means of transportation, and by 2028, flying taxis as well.

At the Periklindo EV Conference 2025 in Jimbaran, the head of Bali's Department of Transportation, Gede Wayan Samsi Gunarta, stated that the shift to eco-friendly transport is inevitable and requires joint efforts from all sectors.
According to him, the island's enclosed territory and constant tourist flow make it ideal for testing new solutions. Government services are already switching to electric cars, and projects like the Ubud SMART Bus demonstrate the infrastructure's readiness for change. The next step is developing charging stations in key areas: Kuta, Sanur, Ubud, and Nusa Penida.
The development of Bali's 'green' model has attracted interest from international experts. Professor C.C. Chan, known as the 'father of electric vehicles in Asia,' noted that the island's compact size and flexible regulations make it an ideal platform for experimenting with cutting-edge technologies.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's PT Dirgantara Indonesia is testing prototypes of Vela Alpha and Intercrus Sola aerial taxis. Certification is planned to be completed by 2027, with commercial operations to start a year later. If successful, Bali will become the first region in the country where tourists can travel almost without harming the environment.
