This workshop is for anyone interested in the connection between yoga, injury recovery, and resilience. It will be especially useful for those who teach yoga and want to be trauma-sensitive, as well as those who want to accommodate their individual needs in group classes.
What you will learn:
  • Causes and consequences of injury
  • Prerequisites for Trauma-Informed Yoga Treatment
  • For a yoga teacher: important points to support everyone (voice, music, queues, triggers, space, adjustments, modifications...)
  • For the Practitioner: Ways to change, self-regulate and develop resilience during class and how to apply this outside of class.
  • Considerations when working with specific populations (refugees, people recovering from drug addiction, people in conflict zones, victims of violence...)
Trauma care in practice: Embody the wisdom shared through physical practice.
  • Returning to the first part of the workshop, we will combine different styles of yoga into one class to reflect resilience, promote concentration, calm the nervous system and restore strength.
Note. This workshop is not a therapy session.
About Bex: Three years ago, Bex survived a fire that left her body severely burned. Through persistent practice, she was able to regain her full range of motion. However, it took much longer for her nervous system to stabilize. In response, she developed this workshop to share what she learned during her recovery and how each yoga session can be adapted to be sensitive to the invisible wounds of trauma. Bex has been teaching at Yoga Barn for ten years.
