Padma Resort Legian is excited to announce the next chapter in the Padma Musical Series upcoming on Saturday, 21 September 2024, featuring a special performance by the world-class jazz musician, JOEY ALEXANDER, with a very special guest in Indonesian renowned singer, ANDIEN.
Originally from Bali, Joey shook the jazz world with his incredible talent from a very young age, gaining millions of views online, culminating in a resounding seal of approval from one of the giants of the jazz scene, the iconic Herbie Hancock, which Joey himself stated was “the day I decided to dedicate my childhood to jazz.”
At a young age, Joey Alexander has gone from strength to strength, establishing his career in the United States and releasing several acclaimed albums. His recent album, Origin, marked a milestone as his first album consisting of all his own compositions and featuring several international stars, including Kendrick Scott and Larry Grenadier, among others. Joey followed this success with the release of his seventh album, Continuance, in the closing months of 2023, achieving all this before his 21st birthday.
Joey made his grand entrance on the international scene at the Master-Jam Fest in Ukraine and has been performing professionally since 2013. In 2014, he received an invitation from Wynton Marsalis to perform at a Jazz At Lincoln Center event, which led to Joey moving to The United States. His 2015 performance on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk, alongside Reuben Rogers on bass and Kendrick Scott on drums, further cemented his popularity and international fanbase.
In the 10 years since then, Joey has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, profiled on CBS 60 Minutes, and performed at the Grammys. He has collaborated with country music star, Kelsea Ballerini at the Grand Ole Opry and with Esperanza Spalding at the White House in front of the Obamas. Joey has graced numerous world-class venues around the globe.
Joey’s show at Padma Resort Legian last year sold out well in advance. This year, he plans something very special for those fortunate enough to attend. As part of his set, Joey will collaborate with one of the country’s most beloved and well-known performers, ANDIEN.
While Andien is more commonly known for her success in pop music, her first love and performances were in the jazz sphere. To perform some jazz numbers, a genre she holds dear, with one of the greats and arguably the greatest jazz talent to ever come out of Indonesia, Joey Alexander, in his home of Bali is something very special for her, for us, and most importantly, for you!
Andien’s voice has graced seven best-selling albums, winning multiple awards from AMI (5), Indonesian music-video awards (4), and a Planet Music Award in Singapore. Much in demand as a musical collaborator, Andien has worked with some of the best musical performers: Jeff Lorber at the Java Jazz Festival (JJF) 2005; the Japanese Jammin’ Zeb Ensemble at (JJF) 2008; jazz great Bob James at the ASEAN Jazz Festival in Batam (2008); Frank Griffith (JJF 2010), and Indonesia piano legend Buby Chen (JJF 2010).
Also joining us on 21 September 2024 will be two exceptional musicians handpicked by Joey Alexander: ELFA ZULHAM on drums and KEVIN YOSUA on bass. Together, they complete an ensemble of incredible talent, flying the Indonesian flag high for a night of top-quality jazz that we cannot wait to share with you.
