Event Details
Every Wednesday Catur, teacher and founder of Ubud Drum Class, will be facilitating a CommUNITY Drum Circle at Bali Bohemia Art & Music Corner.
A facilitated drum circle is the middle ground between a drumming class and a free-form improvisational drum circle. It is where freedom of expression and the understanding of interactive musicality happens. Thus, Catur will be guiding and supporting the group’s intention to play together, connect rhythmically, making space for other people’s rhythm exploration, while contributing their own rhythmical spirit into the “on spot rhythmical alchemy”.
See you in the circle!

About Catur:
A dynamic world musician from Java, Catur plays music as far back as his memory goes, and he masters more than twenty instruments such as drums, strings and flutes. However, percussions became Catur’s main instruments when he fell in love with Djembe in 2005. During his life, Catur had the chance to study traditional music with great masters such as Mady Keita, Boubacar Gaye, Mohammed Bangoura, M’bemba Bangoura and Bassidi Kone.
In 2018, Catur visited Mali in West Africa, to deepen his musical knowledge and to experience the traditional context of drumming in the motherland of Djembe. Catur is passionate about uniting traditional music styles, regularly composing and performing works that draw upon traditions from Indonesia, West and North Africa, and India. Based in Bali, where he teaches drum since 2012, Catur is also the member of many different percussion bands and he often performs at major festivals around the Indonesian archipelago
